Why Women Have Sex?

This article downright pissed me off today.

“People just assumed the answer was obvious,” Meston says. “To feel good. Nobody has really talked about how women can use sex for all sorts of resources.” She rattles off a list and as she says it, I realise I knew it all along: “promotion, money, drugs, bartering, for revenge, to get back at a partner who has cheated on them. To make themselves feel good. To make their partners feel bad.” Women, she says, “can use sex at every stage of the relationship, from luring a man into the relationship, to try and keep a man so he is fulfilled and doesn’t stray. Duty. Using sex to get rid of him or to make him jealous.”

Women also mate to get the things they think they want – drugs, handbags, jobs, drugs. “The degree to which economics plays out in sexual motivations,” Buss says, “surprised me. Not just prostitution. Sex economics plays out even in regular relationships. Women have sex so that the guy would mow the lawn or take out the garbage. You exchange sex for dinner.” He quotes some students from the University of Michigan. It is an affluent university, but 9% of students said they had “initiated an attempt to trade sex for some tangible benefit”.

The entire point of this article is to show that women don’t have sex solely for romantic intimacy with the ones they love, but instead they USE sex for devious purposes.  I don’t know about you, but I found this pretty goddamn offensive.  Why do men USE sex?  Most people will tell you they have sex so they get sexual satisfaction.  Why can’t women just use it for satisfaction as well?

If I want the trash taken out, I’ll take the damn trash out.  I don’t need to coerce my partner to do it by having sex.

Believe it or not, women as a whole are not these malicious beings using their body parts for nefarious ways.  This article (and the book associated with it) is a piece of trash.

Tomorrow

We are road tripping to San Francisco for a surgery my man has been waiting for for years. It’s monumental and big and special and I am excited for him and us.

I don’t want to get married because right now the institution of marriage feels very one-sided, and I want to live in a country where we all have equal rights…I have so many friends who are gay and lesbian and would so badly want to get married, and I wouldn’t be able to sleep with myself.

Charlize Theron—who may be playing the new Catwoman—being hot and awesome per usual.

Never in a million years would I have thought...

  • I’d be working in the freaking web and video game industry doing something I love.
  • I’d be living in San Diego after 23 years in Minnesota.
  • I’d be in an ‘unconventional’ relationship that is also the best relationship I’ve ever been in and ever will be in.
  • That I’d be able to afford an incredibly nice condo in the best part of San Diego.
  • That I’d end up identifying as a pansexual feminist liberal activist for gay rights (aka a heathen to mom and dad)
  • That I’d have a 401k already and a joint account with my partner.
  • That talking about buying a house, marrying, and starting a family isn’t taboo.
  • That dropping out of college wouldn’t mean I’m a failure.  That I can actually still be successful.
  • That my dog would be the only thing that has remained constant with me over the years in my life.

The little spoiled brat only child who begged her parents for money constantly in Minnesota ended up moving out to the West Coast and doing just fine.  I’m independent, secure, happy.  I think for the first time, I’ve shown that I  *am* capable of making good choices for myself after all.

Is that REALLY me?

miss-elle:

However, I can’t shake the feeling when I look at the picture that it isn’t me?  Am I having a crisis about my image?  Am I in shock that I’m ACTUALLY married?  Do I just not want to be one of those girls that makes her wedding the sum of her whole identity as a woman?

I have no idea.  I feel like there’s a psychological reason for why I don’t want that photo as my profile photo anymore.  I like it.  I don’t mind looking at it.  What’s my issue?

Hm, interesting.  I’m not a psychologist…so I don’t have the answers.  Having a wedding picture as your profile identity *is* a pretty powerful statement though.  I can understand why it would cause emotions.  I completely agree with you about how some women make their wedding their whole identity.  I think it’s an important distinction that you were a bride in the picture and now for the rest of you’re life you are a strong married woman.  The picture doesn’t represent who you are as a person, it represents the women you were that day, for that special event.  It’s okay to want to put a ‘regular everyday’ kind of picture back as your online identity. :)

By the way, you were a gorgeous bride!  I hope I’m that gorgeous in my wedding someday! :)

I saw a chick today at the Brass Rail in Hillcrest who looked just like Shane in the L Word. I didn’t know whether to be in love or angry at the imitation.

Things I wish.

  • I wish I had more motivation every day to learn something new.
  • I wish I could spend more time at home doing things I love.
  • I wish I could multitask and watch television and read/write at the same time.
  • I wish I had some crazy talent that was easy to sell to other people.
  • I wish I had a better attention span.
  • I wish everyone in the world was on Tumblr.
