How Twitter has changed the Blogosphere, but not in the way you think

Twitter has changed the blogosphere by fundamentally shifting the appeal of casual sharing from blogs to Twitter itself. Where as once upon a time everyone wanted or eventually had a blog to share their thoughts, today much of that has shifted to Twitter.

I think this is quite true. I actually struggle now with blogging, where before it came so easy to me. Now, when I write a blog - I think of it as a permanent, SEO-driven, and lengthy post. I used to not mind just sharing a link on my blog, but now I feel that Twitter and Facebook are the place for that.

A blog post is noteworthy when I have something longer and meaningful to say. When I want to pose questions in which I can refer to the answers. When I feel the need to educate others in a searchable and more permanent way. Although, this Posterous is a hybrid of Twitter and a Blog, on my other sites like Cuppycake.org I feel the need to be more long-winded and less casual due to Twitter.

This is truly a fact about more Tweeting and less Blogging. I have dwindled from my blog as I like to make some commentary, but do not always have the time (or inclination) to write the large diatribes I use to.
I can share what is on my mind instantly, and if it finally deserves the big push, then I head for the blog.
I prefer Twitter and hopefully Facebook will eventually come into that equation.
Cheers

I am way, way too longwinded for twitter to be my only outlet. So often I curse the 140-character limit! :)
